University Today

The Royal University of Bhutan is a leading higher education institution in Bhutan. As a teaching and research university, it is expected to play a catalytic role in building a knowledge-based society in the country. As a knowledge institution and leading think-tank in the country, RUB aspires to widen the scope of its influence on public policies and social behaviour through the knowledge it generates based on empirical research and informed opinions. To take this idea forward, the Department of Research and External Relations, Royal University of Bhutan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bhutan Observer (The Independent Voice) by which BO provides RUB a page called ‘University Today’ (UT). Published on Fridays every week, UT has three thematic sections called ‘Campus’, ‘Knowledge in Action’, and ‘Perspective’. While ‘Campus’ feature social, cultural, and extra-curricular developments (including community engagements) in our campuses and ‘Knowledge in Action’ feature developments in teaching, learning, research and innovation, the third section called ‘Perspective’ publish independent and substantive commentaries by RUB academics that impact policy and practice. ‘University Today’ represents RUB and BO’s our common desire to promote an understanding of the complementary role of the university and Print Media in a Knowledge-based society, especially in the generation and presentation of alternative perspectives on development issues and beyond. It is believed that this collaboration will contribute towards enhancing the wellbeing of society through people’s access to alternative sources of knowledge and information generated in academia.
