Talk on Solar Eclipse
These days everyone is talking about the total solar eclipse that will occur on 22 July 2009 and Bhutan will experience it for around three minutes. As a prelude to this exciting experience, the Royal University of Bhutan will organize a talk on “Studying the Sun and Solar Eclipse” by Professor Dr. Donald Hassler (PhD Physics) on 20 July 2009 at 3 pm in the auditorium of the Royal Institute of Health Sciences.
A twenty minute movie on the eclipse in Libya, produced by NASA will also be screened.
Dr. Hassler has over 23 years experience as Principal Investigator or Co- Investigator on NASA satellite and sounding rocket missions with extensive experience in the development, characterization and calibration of space instrumentation. Dr. Hassler is currently Principal Investigator of the Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD) investigation to characterize the radiation environment on the surface of Mars, on the NASA Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, and Principal Investigator of the SPICE UV Imaging Spectrograph on the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter Mission. He is also Principal Investigator of the RAISE sounding rocket programme, to study the dynamics of the solar atmosphere and the trigger mechanisms responsible for eruptive solar activity. He is also Co-Investigator on the NASA SOHO, STEREO and SDO missions. All interested are welcome to this talk. |
