The Health Minister, Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo, amidst her eastern tour, granted audience to lecturers and final year students of the college on 2 March, 2021.
The minister spoke about human resource and human capital and the need for the country to be self-reliant not only in terms of food but in knowledge, capacity and ability. Speaking to the students, Her Excellency credited the solidarity exhibited by the citizens, the professional role of science and the comparative advantage of smallness of the country in combating the virus under the visionary leader of His Majesty, the king. The talk highlighted on the development of people-centric health services, and minimizing regional disparities in health services. Her Excellency reminded the students as the cream of the nation, to shoulder the responsibility, be vigilant and inspirational and not to be complacent.
She reminded the students as the young ambassador of health, to advocate on the prevention and intervention to control the virus and help relevant information to be reached to every families, communities and society. She emphasized on health as an essential component of development and progress of a nation. The minister also reiterated on the importance of collective responsibilities to make the task easier. The talk also centered on role performed by surveillance team and taskforce under the caring and vigilant guidance of their majesties. In an interactive session, Her Excellency updated the audience about the plans of vaccination in both rural and urban areas in the most convenient way, the public health intervention to deal with the variant and the future development of overall health service in Bhutan.
